The Oratory Preparatory School | ICT Department

ICT Department

ICT at the Oratory Preparatory School is an important part of the curriculum, with children enjoying access to up-to-date facilities and software.

There are two ICT rooms with 18 and 20 networked computers, as well as a number of computers in the library, the Pre-Prep and Science department.

Nearly all the classrooms are now equipped with an interactive whiteboard. There are another three non-interactive screens in the theatre, the ILS room and in the Pre-Prep.

Pre-Prep pupils have approximately 35 minutes per week in the ICT suite, starting in Reception. In the Prep school, the children have one timetabled lesson per week for discrete ICT teaching, teaching the core skills which they will apply across the curriculum.

Class teachers, in year three and four, as well as specialist subject teachers in years five to eight, have access throughout the school week to the ICT Suite and ILS room to enhance their teaching and promote children’s learning. The focus is on re-enforcing these skills and teaching new, core skills on software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Adobe Fireworks and Flash. These skills are then built upon through the curriculum during years 3-8.

The network is continually being extended to all areas of the school. There is internet access in the library, science laboratories, theatre and boarding house. In total, there are around 60 computers available for pupils to use.
